What a Beautiful Day it was to go riding... My original plans for a Sunday Ride were cancelled… No biggie, I can roll with the flow… Where to first? I’d decided to go after a Photo Tag that has been sitting on Sport-Touring.Net for a few weeks. I knew the location so off I go. I head up the Beeline Hwy to Bush Hwy. Before going after the Tag, I decided to run up and down the Bush Hwy a few times. Not too bad, some traffic, not too much. Time to go for the Photo, off to the Usery Mountain Regional Park.
From there, I’d jumped on the 202 South and headed down to the 60 out to Superior. I think I may have pasted Oddity, not quite sure. Once I arrived in Superior, I took Route 177 South to head down to Winkelman. Before getting to Winkelman, I’d stopped off at the Ray Mine. I’ve been by here a few times and never taken the time to stop.
I didn’t stick around long. Time to get back on the ride. Next area, Hayden/Winkelman:
Passing through Hayden/Winkelman, I’d decided to stop for Lunch. I’d past by a place call Maria’s Family Restaurant. There were a group of Harley’s in the Parking lot so I figured the place could not be too bad. Holy Cow, was I ever wrong.. I will write a Review tomorrow or Tuesday.
Ultimately, my plan was to head down to the San Xavier Mission just South of Tucson. Leaving Winkelman, I took Route 77 South toward Tucson. I was going to jump over to I-10, then down to I-19. However, once I got to Tucson, I figured it would be a shame not to take a spin on Mt. Lemmon. Traffic was moderate, not many bikes out. I arrived at the Iron Door Restaurant without any issue. Damn, I should have put my liner in my jacket. It was cold at the top. *Note to self: BUY Heated Grips before the B2B Ride. While at the top, a Gentleman came jogging over to talk about the bike. We must have talked for 30 minutes… all the time his 5 year old daughter was complaining about being Cold. Dad kept saying “just a few more minutes”.
I finally excused myself politely for I was eager to get back down the Mountain to warm up. No Performance Awards this time.
Next I’d worked my way over to Speedway and then out to I-10. Damn Tucson and all of the Hwy Construction. Just a few miles South I was able to get on I-19 to head down to the Mission. Perfect Timing… the Sun was just sitting as I arrived:
After leaving the San Xavier Mission, I’d planned on taking the back way to Phx by taking the Ajo Hwy around to Gila Bend. Just as I was passing Ryan Airfield, I noticed my lights were not as Bright as they should be, I’d pulled over to examine… damn it… both of my Low Beams were out. This is the second time in less then 11K miles that I’ve last both of my low beems. Just like last time, they both went at the same time:
Well, time to forget about the back roads. Just in case I lose the High Beam as well, I’d decided to head back to the Interstate & head home… My only hope was to make it home. I did not want to be sitting on the side of I-10 at night with no headlights waiting for a tow truck.
Luckily I was able to return home without any issues. Overall it was a Marvelous Day for a ride. I’d left the house around 11:00 AM and returned by 9:30 PM. Total Mileage Round Trip: 469 Miles.
Til next week... ;D
